1. Open the depth-to-3D generator
From a depth-map result, choose 3D Preview to open the 3D Lithophane Generator with the preview image already loaded. Choose No-watermark 3D to use the HD watermark-free depth image after the download entitlement and any required credit confirmation.
You can also open the tool directly and use Image Upload → Click to Load Image to load a PNG, JPG, JPEG, TIFF or EXR. For relief work, use an intentional depth map rather than assuming a photograph’s brightness already represents shape.
This tool builds a surface from image values. The independent AI 3D Model Generator at /3d is a different tool for generating a 3D model from image inputs.
2. Set width, thickness and height direction
Rotate the preview to inspect the subject and background. Set Lithophane Width (mm) for physical width, then adjust Min Thickness and Max Thickness to control the thickness range. Keep the maximum above the minimum and inspect the thinnest regions.
Check Invert Image against the subject: the current light/dark-to-thickness direction may be opposite to the relief you intend. Inspect a recognizable feature from the side before exporting.
Contrast remaps the depth image; EXR and PNG/JPG use different remapping behavior. Compare the resulting shape rather than treating the same Contrast value as equivalent across formats.
Use Smart Denoise with Detail Protection for surface cleanup where available; the tool marks these controls as VIP. Width and thickness affect geometry, whereas the material and lighting appearance should not be used as a substitute for checking geometry.
3. Check the surface and Download STL
Inspect lettering, edges, thin regions and the base before choosing Download STL. Review STL Export Orientation to select the intended axis orientation.
Open the exported STL in a slicer for 3D printing or in CAM for CNC work. Verify units, dimensions, thickness and the intended raised/recessed direction before preparing supports or toolpaths.
If a local defect remains, correct the depth map in the editor and preview the corrected image again. A relief mesh does not reconstruct unseen sides of the original subject.
Common questions
How do I convert a depth map to STL in SculptOK?
Open the depth image in the 3D Lithophane Generator, inspect the surface, set width and thickness, check Invert Image and STL Export Orientation, then select Download STL. Verify the exported mesh in your next application.
Does No-watermark 3D generate a new AI 3D model?
No. It obtains the watermark-free depth image and opens the depth-to-3D preview. It is distinct from the AI 3D Model Generator at /3d.
Why does the relief look reversed?
The image’s light/dark values may be mapped to thickness in the opposite direction to your intention. Check Invert Image and the depth map itself, and inspect the surface from the side.
