Choose vector artwork or a grayscale image
Use Images to SVG when your intended design is made of distinct shapes: an emblem, silhouette, simplified portrait or decorative black-and-white illustration. For a grayscale photograph with continuous tonal shading, consider Laser Image Processing instead. A depth map for bas-relief is a separate workflow from this 2D vector conversion.
Start with Direct trace for clean artwork or choose an AI graphic style for a photo interpretation. Flat and Silhouette favor broader shapes. Outline, Engraving and Linocut produce different contour and texture treatments; none of these names alone guarantees that the design is ready for a particular machine.
Understand filled contours before choosing an operation
SculptOK traces black regions as filled vector shapes. An Outline-style line has two boundaries around a filled strip; it is not a single centerline. If your next application follows every boundary, it may process both sides of a narrow line.
In LightBurn, area engraving uses closed shapes assigned to Fill or Offset Fill. Line operations follow the shape boundaries. Choose the operation for your intended result after importing; do not assume the black appearance of an SVG preview configures the laser operation.
For a cut design, inspect the outer boundary, interior holes, disconnected pieces and minimum bridges in the target application. The converter organizes shapes, but does not automatically design a stencil, recover semantic layers or create centerline toolpaths.
Download, import and check the physical result
Refine the SVG, select Download SVG and import it into your target software. LightBurn documents SVG as an import format. That format support does not replace checking the particular file, its imported scale and its assigned operations.
Set the actual width and height in the target application. Zoom to the final physical size and check thin lines, white gaps, tiny islands and duplicated boundaries. Raise Speck cleanup only when those small regions are unwanted; use greater Curve simplification if excessive detail makes the file difficult to work with.
Preview the planned operations and choose settings for your own machine and material. Test the design on scrap before using the final stock. SculptOK exports the artwork, not a machine-specific job, G-code or CAM toolpath.
Common questions
Can I import a SculptOK SVG into LightBurn?
LightBurn supports SVG import. Download the file and verify its geometry, size and operation settings in LightBurn. The converter has not certified every file or machine combination.
Why does a thin outline appear as two lines?
A traced line is a filled strip with boundaries on both sides. A line operation follows those boundaries. Consider a fill operation for area engraving, or use a dedicated centerline workflow when a single path is required.
Is an SVG the same as a 3D relief or CNC toolpath?
No. This SVG is two-dimensional vector artwork. A 3D relief uses surface geometry, and a machining job requires toolpaths created for the machine, cutter and material.
Does the SVG include power and speed settings?
No. Configure the operation, power, speed and other machine settings in your laser software after inspecting the imported artwork.
